Saudi lizards

Dogs are considered 'unclean' in Saudi Arabia, and they also say 'angels' do not enter a house where a dog is raised. Dhabb (uromastyx) lizards are a a different story, however, and Saudi angels don't seem to fear them as much. According to the Sunnah, they were Prophet Muhammad's meal of choice.

Anyone for Saudi lizard stew?

The ones in the stew didn't seem to be in the full vigour of their health.

ROFL!

Spiritually they are alive and well. ;)

I hafta say.....those are some well fed looking lizards. You think they have been fattened up for the kill?

Marcus يقول...

Poor kid. The Saudi's gonna feed him to the lizards. To fatten 'em up.

Or?

Brent crude took a tiny jump yesterday on fears of a Norwegian oil industry shutdown due to industrial unrest. Problem solved by last minute government intervention ... and the medium term trajectory of oil prices continues to be determined by falling demand. Chinese oil imports fell again in June.

My daily links:

Honor killing in the UK. Even one of these incidents is too many.

Hunting Taliban in Afghanistan who participated in woman's murder. Saying the right things, but will the government follow through?

Now Do You Believe in Global Warming? It's been seriously hot here for days. It's only cooled off recently and keeping the yard and garden alive is taking lots of water. I have been hearing that home owners insurance is set to spike through the roof because of all the claims from storms.

Marcus, this one's for you. Maybe it will help, or not, but it's something to try.

PeteS,

Speaking of oil, did you read that last post about KSA and that link I left? Any thoughts?

[Bridget] You think they have been fattened up for the kill?

I wonder if anyone goes in for lizard rustling? :)

Petes يقول...

Lynnette, not sure which post/link you are talking about ... can you post it again?

"It's only cooled off recently and keeping the yard and garden alive is taking lots of water."

Opposite problem here. The garden is growing like wildfire but it's next to impossible to find time to cut it in between rain showers. It doesn't get time to dry out enough. There are some warm spells, but also have to have the heating on from time to time when it's overcast and the wind shifts to the east/north. We had the wettest June ever, and July started out much the same. Summer rainfall is a given in this country -- that's why it's so green and pleasant(-ish) -- but it's getting a bit ridiculous.

Lynnette In Minnesota يقول...

PeteS,

Sorry, I forgot I had posted a couple of links back there.

It's the one to The Global Mail article I was thinking of. It seemed well researched.

...but it's getting a bit ridiculous.

That's how I felt about the heat. It got so the only time I went outside was to water something! It's summer for heavens sake, you should be able to enjoy it a little, especially as it's such a short season here in Minnesota. I was doing a lot of reading downstairs where it was cool, believe me. :)

Petes يقول...

Will have a look at that article, ta.

Here's a sobering one back ... "Anxious investors day trading with retirement accounts"

"...especially as it's such a short season here in Minnesota"

Yes, when do you stop eating each other for the winter? :-)

Lynnette In Minnesota يقول...

Those type of numbers have even helped spur a cottage industry for advisors who preach the benefits of trading 401(k) and other retirement accounts.

Day trading is just gambling by another name. The people who are really making money at it are the ones writing the books about it.

Investing in stocks itself is a risky business that should be done carefully. If you need the money in a short period of time, you shouldn't be in stocks.

Yes, when do you stop eating each other for the winter? :-)

Sometimes we don't thaw out until June. Hopefully our peoplesicles hold out until then. :)

I read that KSA article, Lynnette. Not a huge amount on the oil industry, other than the proximity of many installations to Qatif. Also, no indication of any real threat -- if it were otherwise I'd expect swift and terrible repression from the Sauds, probably with at least tacit American help. I would think that Saudi oil is just about the most strategic mineral resources on the face of the planet, and not just for Saudis. It's depressing to think that our addiction to oil means that nobody's going to kick up a big fuss about that poor bloke banged up just for talking to a foreign news crew.

"Sometimes we don't thaw out until June."

WOW! Have to say I never took a close look at your average temps before. Your average nightly low for the whole month of April is barely above freezing. And May is cool if not cold -- it's easy to see how you could have frosts well into May in an exceptional spring. I never knew that. Makes me appreciate the weather here a bit more.

I thought it rather interesting that it seemed like all parties involved in that fight didn't want to rock the boat regarding oil production.

Awww, Pete, you kinda get used to it. I remember visiting Florida over the Christmas holidays with my family when I was a kid. I thought it so strange that there was no snow. It just didn't feel like Christmas. I enjoy the changing of the seasons. :)

Lee,

I figured out why there was no color showing on this site on my other computer. Apparently the zoom was set to 125% which truncated the sidebar colors. How that happend I don't know. I might have to check for malware, although I have anti-virus software installed.

No, just the one computer. The font size was set to extra large as well. I don't know, maybe I changed it when I was screwing around with something else. We'll see.
